Vectronix Wins UAE Artillery Observer Contract

The United Arab Emirates Army has signed a AED 32.6 million (CHF 10.4 million) contract with Vectronix AG to acquire the GonioLight G-TI for their new Artillery Observer System (AOS). The GonioLight G-TI is a lightweight, modular system, encompassing a laser rangefinder, thermal imager and gyroscope providing dismounted forward observers with an incredible 1 mil accuracy.

“The selection of the GonioLight G-TI system demonstrates the continuing commitment the UAE Army has in ensuring that its forward artillery observers have a technological and tactical advantage on the digital battlefield,” said Dominik Knill, Regional Vice-President, Vectronix AG.

Vectronix secured the UAE contract in mid-2008 after conducting extensive field trials with the GonioLight G-TI and 3 competitor systems. The company is scheduled to start deliveries of the AOS to the UAE in mid-2009. Additionally, Vectronix will provide 2 weeks of hands-on user training, as well as comprehensive maintenance training to UAE Army personnel.

The GonioLight is the latest Digital Observation Station from Vectronix and utilizes state-of-the-art technology to offer the best performance to weight ratio for “eyes on the ground.“ The GonioLight System can be customized for use with rangefinders, thermal imagers or multifunctional devices, giving forward observers the ability to observe and locate day or night, penetrate the densest of sandstorms, and operate in zero light conditions.

Vectronix AG is a member of the SAGEM group, and is a global leader in laser rangefinder and night vision handhelds, compass and rangefinder modules, and customized day/night observation and geo-location systems designed for the civilian, security and military markets.
