MOSKITO, the newest multifunction handheld from Vectronix AG has been nominated for the Most Innovative Defense Technology (MIDT) Award for 2008. The MIDT award, which is sponsored by Defense Update Magazine, recognizes those developments in the defense industry which provide the most benefit to the warfighter now and in the future.

"We are honored to receive such a prestigious nomination," said Daniel Graf, MOSKITO Program Manager. “The MOSKITO strongly reflects Vectronix’s commitment to providing operators on the ground with the state-of-the-art solutions for observation and geo-location, day and night, even under the harshest field conditions.

The MOSKITO is a radically new handheld from Vectronix that offers definitive all-in-one support throughout the full spectrum of a 24/7 mission. MOSKITO enhances mobility and sustainability by combining all of the essential day and night viewing, measuring and geo-location functions, such as a digital compass, inclinometer and internal GPS, that are normally found is 5 separate devices, into one compact and user-friendly device that weighs about 1 kilogram.

After evaluating hundreds of potential nominees from all around the world, the magazine's editorial team nominated MOSKITO as one of 20 finalists, stating that, “Moskito proves to be the right product in the right place at the right time. By carefully matching performance to user requirements, Vectronix managed to pack the functions most needed by the warfighter. Moskito provides an ergonomically balanced system, reducing the infantryman's load while improving performance, meeting exactly the warfighter's needs, with simplicity, efficiency and class.”

Thanks to MOSKITO’s standard 5x magnification during the day and 3x magnification at night, operators can quickly and easily locate and identify targets from a safe distance. MOSKITO can measure over 2,000 distances and operate in night vision mode continuously for 24 hours on 1 set of commercially available batteries.
